It is not fully tested nor feature complete, and intended only for testing purposes. Edge is, at any given time, the latest version of the control panel. It is tested, but may not contain all the functionality of the version which eventually make its way to the Release tier. Current is what may be considered a release candidate.Release is considered the “Current”, feature-complete version of the Control Panel, and is recommended in nearly all circumstances. It may occasionally match the Release version, but typically will be an older build. It will have had the most public exposure and, be the most thoroughly tested as a result. Stable is, as the name implies, the most stable version of the control panel.TLS v1.2: Brought sophisticated encryption enhancements and improved workstation and server ability to specify which hashes and signature algorithms they accept.
If you prefer not to upgrade cPanel & WHM, you can select an LTS version here to keep that version for as long as cPanel supports it. TLS v1.1: Brought protection from cipher-block chaining (CBC) attacks and support for IANA registration of parameters. LTS is the Long Term Support version of cPanel.Because the tier names sometimes lead to confusion, here’s a quick rundown of each: While you may select any you wish, Release is recommended in nearly all situations. Enabling SSLHonorCipherOrder ensures that the servers cipher preferences are followed instead of the clients. Disabling 1.1 may mitigate attacks against some broken TLS implementations.
You’ll notice on the Update Preferences page that cPanel/WHM offers five release tiers. Disabling TLS 1.1 is (as of August 2016) mostly optional TLS 1.2 provides stronger encryption options, but 1.1 is not yet known to be broken.
It has no bearing on any other software on the server, such as Apache, MySQL, PHP, WordPress, or other CMS. Note that this update section affects only updates to cPanel/WHM itself. According to the OpenSSL changelog, support for TLS 1.2 was added to the development branch of OpenSSL 1.0.1, but this version is not yet released.Probably some changes will also be needed in the modssl code to actually enable TLS 1.2 for Apache.
The control panel now will check each night for updates to the items you selected and will install the updates automatically. Finally, click the blue Save button at the bottom of the page to save your settings.
If you do not use SpamAssassin™ for junk mail filtering and currently have Manual Updates Only or Never Update selected, there is no need to change the setting.
